Anne Korff was born in Germany and studied fine art in Berlin from 1965 to 1971. She came to Ireland in 1977 and has lived and worked in Doorus, Kinvara since 1982.
Her interest in the Irish landscape, its history and archaeology, led to the publication of a series of guides and maps of the Burren and South Galway. This work resulted in the founding of her publishing company Tír Eolas, which has produced several publications on the history and heritage of the West of Ireland since 1991.
While designing and illustrating her publications she has also continued drawing and painting.
Anne is also keen sailor: these recent paintings are based on her sailing trips around the west and southwest coast of Ireland. The starkness and beauty of remote islands and headlands are the starting points for these works. The paintings explore the stillness and turbulence of the sea where water meets land. The atmosphere and subtle colours of secluded coastal places as experienced from the sea, give these works a poignant sense of place. The work reflects her fascination for the Irish coastline.
