Gillian Turner

Gillian completed a PhD in Literature at Deakin University in which she explored spatial concerns in writing, performance and visual arts. In 2001 and 2004, she spent time as an Artist in Residence at the Arthur Boyd studios at Bundanon, NSW, Australia, and in November 2006 held her first major solo exhibition at the Geelong Gallery, Australia.

During June 2009 and 2010, Gillian was a Resident Artist at the Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan. She has returned to Ireland to work in and around Ballyvaughan during June 2011.

Gillian employs a variety of mediums depending upon the concept being explored. Drawing is central to her practice, and she is regularly involved in life drawing. Photography has been an important aspect of her work for many years, and she has won numerous awards from her images including a medal at the prestigious VIGEX International Photographic Exhibition, Australia. Landscape inspires most of her work, especially the area around New Quay and Ballyvaughan, Ireland.

She has a special interest in collaborative art projects that bring together performance, literary and visual arts.

In July this year, Gillian will take up position as an International Artist in Residence for four weeks at Cill Rialaig, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
