A Burren Journal

Sarah Poyntz

Illustrated by Gordon D'Arcy and Anne Korff
"A book to lift your heart and delight the eyes."
Irish Times

" Sarah Poyntz describes some animal sightings that could be taken from a National Geographic feature: the Burren pine marten eating crumbs within five yards of the author, a cat being chased by a badger cub, lizards by the doorstep, seals on the rocky shore below her house and a wren taking a shower by pulling leaves laden with water on top of itself.
All these stories and many more set against a landscape of flaggy limestone shores, deserted villages, forts, Bardic schools, medieval churches, Famine walks, castles and flowers is more than enough to rekindle not only interest but a renewed fascination with this extraordinary place on our doorstep."
Galway Advertiser

Sarah Poyntz gives a striking picture of life in the unique landscape of the Burren of Co. Clare. She describes the changing seasons, the birds and animals, the wild flowers for which the Burren is famous and the lives of the people of the village of Ballyvaughan.

The quotations from poetry throughout the diaries reveal her emotional and poetic response to the special environment of the Burren. As she says in her introduction to this collection, "My aim is to try to convey my love for, and joy and delight in, this most beautiful region, Ireland's greatest natural glory."

The diaries are superbly illustrated with many newly commissioned watercolours
