RUTH MOLLOY

Ruth was born and grew up in Limerick and is currently based in Bristol
where she lives with her husband and two children.
She qualified and practiced as a Graphic Designer and worked in the
television industry (RTE, ITV) for twenty years. On recently completing a
masters degree in animation, Ruth decided her real love was painting and
drawing and has been developing her skills as an artist over the last
three years. This is her first exhibition.
Ruth spends a lot of time visiting the Burren, Co. Clare. Thoughts and
memories of this part of Ireland has been the inspiration, though mainly
subconsciously, for this group of paintings.

"When I start to paint on a new canvas I generally have no pre-conceived
idea of what the image is going to be. As I start to apply paint and ink
the composition starts to take shape and this then informs the subject of
the piece. Each layer is worked and then removed leaving traces of a
colour or image until I'm happy with the final composition. This can be a
lengthy process but I like the the fact that this gives the image a sort
of history as fragments of other images lie underneath."
